Brampton Board of Trade ~ Mayor’s Debate is Unfair

[This Planned Debate fails the smell test]

You have to shake your heads some times when you see something so blatantly wrong that it causes questions about motives.

I am a huge believer in democratic process. Like most of the folks that I know, I also happen to subscribe to the notion of equableness and fairness.  Those two things are at the very heart of how democracy functions AND are documented in core law such as Canada’s Constitution and the Charter of Rights. Look it up.

I just checked the City of Brampton’s Official web site for the final filings of candidates for the Office of Mayor.  It turns out the Brampton’s Board of Trade (BBOT) has a different slant on democracy.  Of the 14 (fourteen) candidates seeking election to the office of Mayor, the BBOT has decided (by way of its own empirical wisdom) that 10 of those registered candidates are unworthy to seek office.

I am sure that as this fact becomes known, the BBOT will attempt some mumbo-jumbo to cover up their shallow attempt to replicate George Orwell’s novel, “Animal Farm”.  You may recall that on that “farm” that all animals were created equal but “some animals were deemed to be more equal than others.”

That novel ended in the demise of the clique that spun rules to suit itself and it may well be time to put the BBOT into perspective.  They are unelected, self appointed by way of their own internal elections and funded to a large part by tax dollars.

I have a question for the BBOT. Can one of the “old boys” take a moment and explain  why is it that not one single Indo/Pak candidate has been invited to take part in your little debate?  By my tally, 50% of the candidates for the Office of Mayor in the upcoming election are of Indo/Pak heritages.

What’s up with that?

  1. In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

Thank gawd that Mayor Fennell has threatened to boycott this little clique. She continues to show by word and by action that she is legitimately the people’s mayor.  Sanderson? Jeffrey? Do these actions of the BBOT (in excluding 100% of the Indo/Pak candidates) fit your definition of an inclusive society??
