Thunderbird Rising first went into action five years ago in response to lack of educational opportunities in remote communities in Canada’s northlands.
No big surprise to me was the fact that ordinary, regular everyday Canadians responded in an overwhelming manner. Within a short period of time WE (you and I) assembled a mammoth collection of contemporary elementary school text books. In total, over 40,000 brand new class room texts spanning each of the core curriculum subjects were assembled along with classroom and student supplies.
That mammoth shipment finally left Canadian Forces Base Borden under the care of the Third rangers Patrol group and found its way into classrooms in 18 fly-in only communities in north-west Ontario.
The miraculous phenomenon that happened was never intended to become a permanent or on-going process. Instead, those of us still involved turned our minds to an ongoing awareness campaign. Providing…
